Early Explorers Transition Program
At Franklin, we believe in supporting a strong and successful transition to school and together with Tumut SaCC we have implemented an inclusive program designed to support families enrolling at Franklin.
Each week, starting in Term 2, Franklin runs an ‘Early Explorers’ program, where children can explore the Kindergarten classroom, interact with the current Kindergarten teachers and become familiar with the school environment. As they do, we will get to know your child and be able to build on their strengths and abilities.
Read the Getting ready for primary school guide for detailed tips and checklists.
Our Early Explorers program is specially designed to support your child’s smooth transition into school life. Starting school is an exciting milestone, and we aim to make this experience positive and comfortable for every child.
Smooth Transition
We help children adjust to the new school environment, easing any anxiety about beginning kindergarten.
Children get the chance to become familiar with their classroom, teachers, and daily routines before the school year begins.
Through interaction with peers, children build essential social skills and friendships that will carry into the school year.
We actively engage parents and caregivers, providing information and support to help them understand the transition process and assist their child’s adjustment.
Our program supports children in developing confidence in navigating the school setting, fostering a positive attitude toward learning.
Educators identify each child’s strengths and any specific needs early on, allowing for personalised support from the very beginning.
Early Explorers introduces children to the types of activities and learning they will experience in kindergarten, setting a positive tone for their educational journey.
Families are encouraged to connect with the school community, building relationships with teachers and other parents to strengthen support networks.
Overall, the Early Explorers program provides a nurturing and supportive environment designed to ensure every child has a confident, positive start to their formal education journey.

What to expect in Kindergarten
Learning and development
Kindergarten follows the NSW curriculum. Children build early skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, health and physical activity, science and technology. Learning through play also supports social, emotional and academic growth.
Daily routines
Children learn routines such as morning arrival, snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers guide children as they settle in, but practising at home helps.
Best Start Assessment
All Kindergarten children take part in the Best Start Assessment. This is a friendly, one-on-one activity where teachers learn about your child’s literacy and numeracy skills. It is not a test and needs no preparation.
