About our school

Franklin Public School was opened in 1976 and is named after the internationally renowned Talbingo born authoress, Stella Maria (Miles) Franklin (1879-1954). Located on the southern side of Tumut in the newer growth area, the school caters for approximately 270 K-6 students including 20% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Tumut is situated on the south west slopes and is two hours from Canberra and one hour from the regional city of Wagga Wagga. The School caters for the delivery of high-quality learning outcomes for all students with a special emphasis on social and emotional growth. To this end, a school chaplaincy program has operated at Franklin since 2015.

Franklin has a long-established tradition of being a family friendly school and has highly developed partnerships between parents, staff and community. A strong relationship exists with the Local Aboriginal Educational Consultative Group and the wider community.

Dedicated and experienced staff utilise well resourced learning spaces to provide the latest in technologically enhanced learning to engage creativity and problem solving (STEM).

Cultural awareness is fostered by participation in NAIDOC Week, Harmony Day, National Spelling Bee, choral activities, musical productions and a variety of relevant excursions. Franklin has a long tradition of sporting prowess across all areas of athletics, swimming and team sports having won numerous Riverina and state titles. Our extensive playground and outdoor learning areas include vast green playing fields, covered gym equipment, sandpit, basketball courts and cubby house.

Franklin Public School hosts a SaCC Centre (Schools as Community Centres). SaCC supports local families to enhance the early learning and well being of children 0-8 years. Each year our families participate in activities including supported play groups, parenting programs and transition to school events.

Our PBL values of safety, respect and achievement, are promoted and fostered in all settings.

Franklin Public School prides itself on providing a welcoming and inclusive learning environment, where everyone belongs.ย
